Processing of SkyTEM data

The SkyTEM data processing module is special design to handle and processes the big among of raw data that a large SkyTEM-survey provides. The development of the processing module was carried out in close relation to the development of the SkyTEM-system. The SkyTEM processing module is therefore always up-to-date with ongoing development of the SkyTEM-system for an optimum processing  of the SkyTEM data.

As for the other geophysical data types supported by Aarhus Workbench are all data stored in a comprehensive database structure, together with key system specific information, essential for the processing and inversion of the SkyTEM data. The database therefore also serves as an archive for both raw and processed data, and for the performed processing steps and processing settings.

The main processing features in Aarhus Workbench for the different deliverable raw SkyTEM data types are listed below. The processing is in general preformed with user adjustable automatic data filtering and stacking. The automatic processing can be inspected at different levels and user corrections can be added.

GPS

  • Path tracking to close minor gabs in the GPS-records and for filter out outliers.
  • Lag correction to obtain the optimum data positions in relation to the lateral sensitive of the coil configuration.

Laser altimeters

  • Pitch and roll correction to obtain the vertical distance to surface at centre coil locations
  • Filtering of fake surface reflections e.g. from tree tops
  • Optional: Manuel flight height tracing and corrections

Voltage data

  • Filtering of distorted data (coupling) based on slope tracking on raw sounding curve data
  • Filtering of distorted data (coupling) based on trained neural networks
  • Adjustable trapezoid shaped stacking kernel form optimizing the signal-to-noise-ratio and lateral resolution
  • Optional: Manuel inspection and corrections down to the single data point level
