Aarhus Workbench

The Aarhus Workbench is a unique Windows software package for handling and processing as well as for inversion and visualization of geophysical and geological data. The package integrates all steps in the workflow from handling the raw data to the final visualization and interpretation of the inversion results. The Aarhus Workbench package includes dedicated data processing modules for many geophysical data types and a robust and fast inversion code (AarhusInv). Together with an integrated GIS-platform and  a robust database storing system Aarhus Workbench is an outstanding software package for working with geophysical data.

Processing and inversion modules

Airborne EM

  • SkyTEM - Helicopter time-domain.
  • General Helicopter Time domain EM. E.g. VTEM.
  • Fixed Wing Time domain. E.g. TEMPEST.
  • Helicopter frequency domain EM (HEM). E.g. RESOLVE, DigHEM

Ground based methods

  • Ground conductivity meters (GCM). E.g. DUALEM, EM31, EM38.
  • Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT).
  • Time domain induced polarization (IP).

Visualization and interpretation

Visualization, evaluation, and geological interpretation of the inversion results take place on the GIS-surface and in cross sections. The Aarhus Workbench is fully compatible with the MapInfo (tab-files) and ArcGIS  formats (GeoTiff, Shape-files) and uses the Surfer grid file format. Aarhus Workbench also supports different database formats for geophysical data and boreholes.

The visualization and interpretation environment includes:

GIS themes

  • Generation of geophysical theme maps, e.g. mean resistivity, isopac-map, elevation of geological interfaces, etc.
  • Batch grinding of themes using Kriging or inverse distance interpolation, including semi-variogram analysis.
  • Visualization of theme maps as colorized points or grid images.
  • Borehole locations with easy access to detail borehole report.
  • External GIS themes in MapInfo (tab-files) or ArcGIS  formats (GeoTiff, Shape-files).

Cross sections

  • Section location by drawing direct on the GIS-map or based on survey flight lines.
  • Resistivity models displayed as bars or interpolated filled sections, combined with depth of investigation information.
  • Boreholes as bars with easy access to detail borehole report file.
  • Digitization of layer interfaces for easy geological interpretation.
  • Section combined with intersections in a grid displayed as lines.
  • Extended label options for resistivity bars and boreholes. E.g. projection distances, lithology acronym, etc.
