Brazilian-Danish network - BraDa_2019

Network for mapping of mineral and groundwater resources

The main purpose and expected outcomes of this network activity were:

  • Identification of possibilities and research areas for a new long-term Brazilian-Danish collaboration focusing on geophysical methods for mapping mineral and groundwater resources.
  • Bringing together recognized geoscientists from Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM) with recognized research geoscientists, and key players from research and the private sector in Denmark to establish strong networks for future joint initiatives.
  • Proposal of the implementation and execution of a SkyTEM survey over mineralized structures in the Reserva Mineral de Cobre e Associados (RENCA) project area, Brazil - a pilot project for long-term collaboration.

The activities consisted of two workshops in connection with network activity: the first in Belém, Brazil, and the second in Aarhus, Denmark. These consisted of scientific discussions followed by technical tours to relevant institutions and field sites. The focus of these workshops was to establish a long-term Brazilian-Danish research collaboration within geological mapping, mapping, and characterization of mineral resources as well as mapping and assessment of groundwater resources. Separating the workshops into a Brazilian and a Danish part ensured mutual familiarity with the vastly different research and working environments. In addition it allowed the partners to identify common interests and problems in the first workshop and following up on these in the second.
